Heading to the capital

Inter Miami will travel to Washington to face DC United at Audi Field. Lionel Messi is not present in this match to preserve his fitness for the upcoming schedule, including matches with the Argentina team.

Coach Gerardo Martino confirmed that Messi suffered a small injury to the hamstring in his right leg, which caused him to request to be replaced after 50 minutes on the field in the second leg of the Concachampions round of 16 against Nashville.

Despite Messi’s absence, Inter Miami must win to maintain the top spot in MLS in the Eastern region. They have the same 7 points as the other 4 teams but played one more match.

Regarding Messi’s position, Robert Taylor or Leonardo Campana will be the choice to replace in attack, where Luis Suarez is still present after scoring 4 goals and 5 assists in 6 matches with Inter Miami.

Inter Miami’s lineup against DC United will not have Messi

In goal, Drake Callender holds a fixed position; Julian Gressel took up position on the right wing and Jordi Alba on the left, with the central trio of Tomas Aviles, Serhiy Kryvtsov and Nicolas Freire. In midfield, Sergio Busquets takes charge of the middle axis, surrounded by Diego Gomez and Federico Redondo.

The only doubt lies on attack. Suarez will appear in the match but it is unclear whether Taylor or Campana will be partnered. The Finnish player brings flexibility to Inter Miami when he can move widely from the wing to the center, while the Ecuadorian striker is more similar to Suarez’s No. 9 style.

Probable teams

DC United: Bono; Herrera, Bartlett, McVey, Pedro Santos; Medios: Klich, Peltola, Hopkins; Stroud, Dajome, Gabriel Pirani.

Inter Miami: Drake Callender; Julian Gressel, Tomas Aviles, Serhiy Kryvtsov, Nicolas Freire, Jordi Alba; Federico Redondo, Sergio Busquets, Diego Gomez; Luis Suarez, Robert Taylor or Leonardo Campana.
